Tom Irwin to perform at Songbag Concert Series

The versatile and prolific sing-songwriter Tom Irwin will be making his Songbag Concert Series debut on Sunday, November 11 at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site in Galesburg.
For more than 35 years, Tom Irwin has been taking life experiences and turning them into songs. He has 10 full length recordings to his credit. He is known for performing traditional folk and country tunes. Irwin covers Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Woody Guthrie and many others. Irwin will provide an evening of music that will find you chuckling and tapping your feet as he tells stories through words and music. During intermission, the Sandburg site’s bookstore will be open providing a chance to do some early holiday shopping. The store features books written by and about Carl Sandburg, Sandburg recordings, mugs, bookmarks, items of local history interest, and more.
This performance will be in the Sandburg site’s Barn at 313 E. Third Street in Galesburg. The show starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. with a break for refreshments around 5 p.m. The second set will begin around 5:20 p.m. A donation of $5 per person is suggested. The concert is sponsored by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The Spring Songbag series will begin March 10, 2019 with guitarist David G. Smith. The April 14 Songbag will feature the trio Briar Road.
Carl Sandburg was a collector and performer of America’s folk songs. The series is named in honor of Sandburg’s book “The American Songbag,” published in 1927. The Carl Sandburg State Historic Site includes the home where the famed poet and biographer was born. For more information, visit www.sandburg.org.
