Today during the 95 Country Oldies Cafe, I played “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” from George Jones. A song that pays tribute to some of the country music legends and poses the question of who will be the future country legends.
The song came out in 1985, and since it’s recording, even more of the legends mentioned in the song have passed on, including Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Carl Perkins, and even George (although he didn’t mention himself in the song).

This was the first song for which George did a music video and it won the CMA Award for “Music Video of the Year” in 1986.
