Senator Dick Durbin slated to speak at Knox graduation

Knox’s commencement ceremony has featured luminary speakers in the past like President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

This year that tradition will continue as remarks will be given by the U.S. Senior Senator from Ilinois, Dick Durbin.

Durbin currently serves as the Assistant Minority Whip in the Senate, the second highest ranking Democrat in the chamber.

Knox President Teresa L. Amott says it’s an honor to welcome Durbin, who she says has shown a “commitment to public service and issues like college access and human rights.”

The Senator from East St. Louis, has sponsored or co-sponsored on a myriad of legislation on major issues in recent years including education, healthcare, immigration, veteran’s benefits and gun safety.

Most recently he urged Senate Leadership to pass re-authorization of the Perkins Loan Program, a program to give financial assistance to low income students attending college.

The 2016 Knox College Commencement Ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 5th at 10 a.m. on the South Lawn of Old Main on the Knox campus.
