Sundberg calls for more female community college presidents

President of Carl Sandburg College, Dr. Lori Sundberg is calling for change at the top of the community college ladder.

In a recent letter to The League for Innovation–a non profit publication, Sundberg says community colleges need more women as presidents.

She cites only one in three presidents are women–a number that is even lower at the university level.

The Sandburg leader says a lack of role models, and undeveloped boards are reasoning for the trends, but that changes can be made as many presidents are expected to retire in the next five years.

Sundberg calls also for more diversity on boards as a solution, focusing on the acceptance of women as leaders. She adds that “redefining the community college presidency is essential.”

Sundberg will join Knox College President Dr. Teresa Amott and Monmouth President Dr. Clarence Wyatt tonight on Galesburg’s Evening News with Terry Cavanaugh.
