Maryland man arrested in Knox County sexual exploitation case

A Maryland man accused of sexual solicitation of a minor in Knox County is in police custody.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department says a minor who lives in the area had been in communication over social media with 45-year-old Andre R. Barbins leading to a police investigation. Barbins, a resident of Solomons, Maryland, is accused of sexual solicitation of a minor and one count of providing obscene material to a minor.

He was arrested last Friday in his home by Maryland police and agents with the Department of Homeland Security. In Barbins’s home, officers found “numerous digital media storage devices” containing images of child pornography.

The suspect told authorities he had contacted the Knox County juvenile as well as several other minors.

The Knox County case opened Oct. 9 last year.

Barbins is held in the Calvert County Detention Center in Maryland.
