Carl Sandburg College’s Career Expo allows students and community members to connect with a slate of businesses and organizations.
The 25th annual expo was sprawled across the campus’ Building F today, where job seekers could get help creating a resume as well as tips on interviewing and applying for jobs.
More than 60 employers showed were represented.
The centerpiece of the event took place on the gym floor where rows of tables were set up where representatives of businesses and organizations stood to meet with those exploring careers.
Sandburg’s Director of Corporate and Leisure College Stacey Rucker tells WGIL the expo allows job hunters to jump start their search.
“What it allows people to do is connect with employers who are seeking employees in any kind of retail, manufacturing industrial, military,” Rucker says. “There’s kind of something for everybody here.”
John Baker is a Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator representing Beacon of Hope Hospice at the expo.
He says his recruitment strategy is to tell people about what Beacon of Hope does.
“Patients come first in our eyes and we want to give them the best care,” Baker says. “The best way to recruit somebody I believe is to tell them what you do and let them understand what the company is all about.”
The event was also sponsored by the Workforce Investment Board of Western Illinois and Galesburg Workforce Partners.
