Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series “Overton’s 400”

Chicagoland Speedway hosts today’s Overton’s 400, the 17th race of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The push to the post-season playoffs is gathering steam with just 10 races remaining in the regular season. Playoff berths have been secured by race winners Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon and Joey Logano.

Heading into the weekend, Harvick and Busch, who have combined for 9 wins so far, are locked in a tight battle for the #1 seed. Harvick presently holds the top spot with 26 playoff bonus points, one more than Busch. Alex Bowman currently has the final provisional playoff berth and enjoys a 17-point advantage over Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

In addition to Bowman and the six race winners, drivers holding the 9 other provisional spots are Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Aric Almirola, Ryan Blaney, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliott and Erik Jones. The 2018 aplayoffs will open September 16th in Las Vegas.

Paul Menard won the pole for today’s race and Ryan Blaney will start on the outside of Row 1.
