Another season of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing begins tonight on FM 95 with the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona. It’s a non-points exhibition at the Daytona International Speedway. The field of 25 drivers, one of the largest in the events history, includes 2014 pole winners, former Sprint Unlimited race winners and Daytona 500 pole winners who competed full-time in 2014, and all 16 Chase drivers from 2014. There are also provisional drivers for those eligible but choose not to enter the race. Tonight’s race is 75 laps, with a 25-lap first segment and then a 50-lap final segment. MRN reports that at the conclusion of last night’s final practice, Jeff Gordon was fastest, cranking off a lap of 196.764 mph in his No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. In January, Gordon announced that the 2015 season will be his last as a full-time NASCAR driver.
A blind draw awarded Paul Menard the pole position and Kasey Kahne will be alongside on the front row. Live coverage from the Motor Racing Network begins at 6:00 tonight on FM 95.
