Galesburg police arrested two men on forgery charges yesterday evening after the duo allegedly spent several fake $100 bills.
Police reports show 22-year-old Hernando D. Simpson of Richton Park and 23-year-old Terrance L. Johnson of Chicago were arrested yesterday on five counts of forgery each.
Officers responded to a call yesterday afternoon from Steak ‘n Shake of counterfeit money used for food purchases. Police tracked a vehicle driven by Simpson to a Home Boulevard residence where officers took both suspects into custody.
Johnson was holding a KFC bag that contained 18 counterfeit $100 bills. Most of the bills had a portrait of Benjamin Franklin on both sides and the words “for motion picture use only.”
In the vehicle, police found a KFC receipt with a purchase made using a $100 bill. Officers also received a call from the Galesburg Wendy’s restaurant of counterfeit bill use.
In addition to the forgery charges, Simpson is accused of possession of a stolen car title and possession of a controlled substance after police found a pill bottle containing less than 15 grams of a schedule four narcotic.
Bond has not yet been set.
