Police arrest Galesburg couple on gun charges

Police responded Friday morning to a domestic dispute that led to the arrest of a Galesburg couple on gun charges.

According to police reports, 48-year-old Dale J. Leary and 51-year-old Sue Ann McIntire had been arguing in the early morning hours Friday in Leary’s North Seminary Street home.

McIntire told police Leary had thrown her to the floor before brandishing a .45 caliber handgun and pointing it at her head. When police arrived, they spotted a revolver on the arm of a couch.

The firearm had three live rounds in it.

No shots were fired that morning, however, McIntire said Leary had fired a round into the property’s ceiling and out the front door a few days earlier.

Officers noticed a bullet hole in the ceiling. When asked about it, Leary said McIntire had fired the gun.

Both suspects were arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm, FOID card violation and aggravated assault. Leary faces additional charges, including domestic battery.
