Ryan Blaney Wins the Roval Race and Four Eliminated from Playoffs

Ryan Blaney collected his second victory of the season on Sunday, and the second of his career, advancing to the Round of 12 with his win the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson ran 1st and 2nd going into the final chicane, where the two became tangled and spun out, allowing Blaney to pass for a 1st place finish.

Blaney spoke after the race, “You hate to see two guys get into it and take out two of the best cars all day. But that’s racing sometimes…We were just at the right spot at the right time. It’s cool to be in Victory Lane and move on to the next round”.

With the results of Sunday’s race, Jimmie Johnson, Austin Dillon, Denny Hamlin and Erik Jones were all knocked out of the championship picture and will not advance to Round 2.

Johnson’s elimination was the most dramatic with his crash with Truex, which ended his chance of moving to the next round. Despite having the same points as Kyle Larson and Aric Almirola, based on the tie breaker of better finishes in the round, Johnson was eliminated.
