50th Anniversary Page

50 Years and counting! FM 95 is celebrating 50 years on your radio dial at 94.9FM! Starting off as WGIL FM in 1966, playing “beautiful music”. The call letters were derived from Galesburg being named an “All American City” by LOOK Magazine, so WAAG was born – All American Galesburg. In around 1972 local music shop owner (and local Country musician) Bill Reeves began a Country Music program out of his basement in the evenings.   According to former WGIL and WAAG General Manager Roger Coleman, Bill would have a basement full of people watching and listening to him do his radio show. It was a hit and WAAG became “All American Country” soon after. Since becoming The Galesburg Area’s home for Country Music, we have seen the personality of WAAG change from Super 95 to 95 Country, FM 95, and for the past two decades, The Country Station FM 95.   Thank you for riding along with us during our journey. Here is to 50 more! Feel free to flip through some of the nostalgia we have come across highlighting the radio station and some of our past announcers and employees.  Also check out Eric Hanson’s chats with some former FM 95 personalities below the gallery.
