Tribute To Lynn Anderson

Lynn Anderson passed away last Thursday (July 30, 2015) after suffering a heart attack. She had been hospitalized with pneumonia following a trip to Italy and died at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was 67. A funeral for Lynn was held this morning in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lynn moved to Nashville and signed with Columbia Records in 1970, and released “Rose Garden” that October. The tune spent five weeks at No. 1 on the country charts, became a crossover hit on the pop charts, earned Lynn a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and helped her win Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMA Awards. It also held the title of the top-grossing song by a female artist for 27 years.

“I am a huge fan of Lynn’s. She was always so nice to me. She did so much for the females in country music. Always continuing to pave the road for those to follow,” Reba McEntire says in a press release. “I loved her music and her love for horses. “Rose Garden” was a song I sang in high school in our Kiowa Cowboys High School band. She will be missed.”

Throughout her career, Lynn also received Female Vocalist of the Year at the ACM Awards twice, Favorite Female Country Artist at the American Music Awards and Favorite Country Artist at the People’s Choice Awards. She earned three No. 1 albums and 12 No. 1 songs, and sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Lynn was also an awarded equestrian and horse breeder, and she supported and worked with numerous charities, including the Roundup for Autism and the Cariety Foundation, among others.

Country singer Bill Anderson also released a statement following Lynn’s passing.
“She and I had so much fun over the years, teasing people and telling them we were brother and sister, or sometimes even man and wife, when they would ask. I could always get a rise out of her when I would say, ‘Actually, Lynn is my mother!’ Trust me, she always had a sharp comeback!” he recalls. “Rest in peace, my talented and special ‘kin.’ Love you always.”

After hearing of Lynn’s passing, Tim McGraw and his band paid respect to her and her family with an impromptu jam of her classic song, “Rose Garden”, backstage before a concert:
