The 15th annual Great Balloon Race was July 29 – 31, 2016, in Galesburg. A lot of the activities happened at the soccer fields at Lake Storey Park, including the Night Glows on Friday and Saturday.
The weather was agreeable twice during the weekend for the hot air balloons to take flight…Saturday night and then again Sunday morning. On Saturday night, the breeze took the hot air balloons south/southwest from the soccer fields. After take-off, some of the balloonists brought their hot air balloons down so that their baskets touched the water of Lake Storey and then they lifted again and continued their flight…a splash and dash!
Large crowds enjoyed an incredible sight throughout the weekend with 20 hot air balloons participating this year. A huge thank you to Greg and Jackie Saul and all of the volunteers that make this event happen!
